Understanding loneliness

We all experience loneliness at some time or another. The painful pang of aloneness is usually experienced during life transitions. Such as the death of a loved one, divorce, or a move to a new place. This type of loneliness is known as reactive loneliness. Problems arise when the person experiencing reactive loneliness does not have the emotional, psychological or financial resources to work through the painful change. Additionally, the lack of a receptive social circle may contribute to the development of chronic loneliness and the deterioration of psychological wellbeing. Chronic loneliness is torturous!

Some options to help combat loneliness may include:

  • Joining an online support groups that encourage social connection,
  • volunteer in your community,
  • join a walking/running group in your community,
