Heather Delaney Clinical Psychologist, MA, HPCSA
I’m am a trained and registered clinical psychologist with a deep curiosity for human behaviour. The human brain—this three-pound anomaly—has always fascinated me, particularly questions centring around: Why do we do the things we do? Why do we say what we say? Why do we keep doing the same things? Over the years, I’ve learned that the answers to these questions are as unique as the individuals I work with. This curiosity, paired with my desire to serve others, led me to become a clinical psychologist.
My approach to therapy is rooted in an integrative, client-centred philosophy. Although I instinctively formulate psychodynamically, I believe in meeting my clients where they are and tailoring treatment to their specific needs. I’m a firm believer that one size does not fit all, and my varied training allows me to view each individual as a complex, dynamic being—someone who may be navigating interpersonal challenges and deep-seated patterns rooted in multifaceted systems. It is my privilege to work with clients using the most fitting therapeutic modalities, ensuring that therapy is both meaningful and impactful.
I’ve been fortunate to gain diverse experience throughout my career, from interning at Tara Hospital, and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital to completing my community service at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. These opportunities exposed me to a wide range of therapeutic approaches, particularly Psychodynamic, Psychoanalytic and Systemic Family therapy empowering me to support patients across various settings, including the acute psychiatric ward.
Before transitioning into therapy, I spent over 20 years in the corporate world, overseeing the International Sales Department for a global company. This role required frequent travel and a deep engagement with diverse cultures and organizations. Balancing my career ambitions with personal life goals, especially as a female executive, was a challenge that taught me invaluable lessons in flexibility, resilience, and self-awareness. These insights, along with my innate curiosity, have shaped my approach to both therapy and life coaching—helping me guide others toward a better understanding of their patterns of behaviour and personal growth.
As your therapist, I am committed to supporting you through the uncertainties of change, offering a safe, non-judgmental space for exploration. Together, we will work toward deepening your self-awareness and enhancing your overall well-being. I take pride in building an open and collaborative relationship, one that empowers you to explore your concerns and move forward with confidence.
Outside of my professional life, I cherish time with my family and friends, engaging in activities that bring me joy—such as travelling, photography, exploring nature, or gardening.
If you’re ready to start your journey toward greater insight and well-being, I’m here to help. Let’s work together to uncover the answers that are important to you.
Areas of Interest
I have a special interest in trauma, depression, and mood disorders, helping clients manage emotional distress and build healthier coping strategies. Much of my focus is on self-esteem during life role transitions; whether that’s female executives navigating corporate pressures, individuals adjusting after divorce or bereavement, or caregivers balancing their own needs with the demands of others. I also facilitate DBT therapy, providing a structured, skills-based space for managing emotions and strengthening resilience. Beyond individual therapy, I partner with organisations to deliver corporate team building and workplace programs, with a strong emphasis on psychological safety, trust, and wellbeing in professional settings.
